Ingredients

Minced beef (beef mince, beef or buff keema)600 g
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)1 tbsp
Onion1 large, diced
Carrot2, diced
Button mushroom100 g, chopped
Garlic2 cloves
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)1 tbsp
Tomato puree2 tbsp
Worcestershire sauce1 tbsp
Water1½ cups beef stock
Dried mixed herbs (italian seasoning)1 tsp dried thyme
Bay leaf (indian bay leaf)1
Saltto taste
Black pepper½ tsp
Potato1 kg, for mash
Butter3½ tbsp
Milk½ cup
Cheddar cheese¾ cup, grated

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Brown beef in oil in batches. Add onion, carrot and mushroom and cook until soft.
  2. 2Add garlic, flour, tomato puree, Worcestershire, stock, thyme and bay. Simmer 30 minutes and season.
  3. 3Make a buttery mash with half the cheese stirred in.
  4. 4Top filling with mash, fork the surface, scatter remaining cheese and bake at 200 C for 25 minutes.
Serve it like this

Serve hot scoops on warm plates with buttered peas, carrots or green beans, and extra gravy.
