Ingredients

10 servings
Butter6 tbsp, soft
Sugar¼ cup, powdered
Vanilla essence (vanilla flavouring, imitation vanilla extract)½ tsp
Milk1 tbsp
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)1¼ cups
Cornflour (cornstarch)2 tbsp
Salta pinch
Jam (jam or jelly)4 tbsp strawberry or mixed fruit jam

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Beat the butter and powdered sugar until pale and fluffy, then beat in the vanilla and milk.
  2. 2Mix in the maida, cornflour and salt to a soft dough. Chill 15 minutes.
  3. 3Heat the oven to 180 C. Roll 20 small balls, place on a lined tray and press a deep thumbprint in each.
  4. 4Fill each well with jam and bake 12 to 14 minutes. Cool on the tray before moving.
Serve it like this

Arrange in rings on a cake stand so the jam centres face up like little jewels.
