Ingredients

4 servings
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)1⅔ cups
Baking powder1 tsp
Sugar2½ tbsp
Egg1
Milk¾ cup
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)2 tsp, for the mould
Sweet red bean paste1¼ cups

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Whisk the egg, sugar and milk, then mix in flour and baking powder to a smooth batter. Rest 30 minutes.
  2. 2Heat a taiyaki pan (or make round imagawayaki in a small pan) and brush with oil.
  3. 3Fill each side halfway with batter, add a spoon of bean paste to one side, cover with a little more batter.
  4. 4Close the pan and cook 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden.
Serve it like this

Serve warm from the pan, standing in a paper sleeve, with green tea.
