Ingredients

12 servings
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)3¾ cups
Milk1 cup, warm
Butter4 tbsp, plus more to brush
Sugar2½ tbsp
Egg1
Instant dry yeast2 tsp
Salt1¼ tsp

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Mix flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Add milk, egg and melted butter and knead 8 to 10 minutes.
  2. 2Rise covered for 1 hour until doubled.
  3. 3Divide into 12 balls, tuck tight, and place close together in a greased pan. Rise 45 minutes.
  4. 4Bake at 190 C for 18 to 20 minutes and brush with butter straight away.
Serve it like this

Serve warm in the pan or a cloth lined basket with soft butter. Perfect with soups, stews and roasts.
