Classic doce de grão.

Ingredients

12 servings
Chana dal (split chickpeas)1¼ cups, soaked 2 hours
Fresh grated coconut2½ cups
Sugar1½ cups
Water⅔ cup
Ghee1½ tbsp
Cardamom½ tsp

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Cook chana dal until soft but not mushy, drain and grind with the coconut to a fine paste.
  2. 2Boil sugar and water to a one string syrup.
  3. 3Add the paste and ghee and cook on low heat, stirring, until it leaves the pan.
  4. 4Add cardamom, spread in a greased tray and cut into diamonds when cool.
Serve it like this

Arrange diamonds on the kuswar platter with dodol, perad and kulkuls.
