Classic gasagase payasa.

Ingredients

5 servings
Poppy seeds (white poppy seeds)¼ cup
Fresh grated coconut¾ cup
Rice1 tbsp, soaked
Jaggery¾ cup, grated
Milk2½ cups
Water1¼ cups
Cardamom½ tsp
Ghee2 tsp
Cashews1½ tbsp

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Dry roast poppy seeds until they crackle, then soak with rice in warm water 20 minutes.
  2. 2Grind poppy seeds, rice and coconut with a little water into a very smooth paste.
  3. 3Cook the paste with water, stirring, for 8 minutes. Add jaggery and simmer until it melts.
  4. 4Turn off the heat, stir in warm milk and cardamom, and top with cashews fried in ghee.
Serve it like this

Serve warm in a small steel bowl with cashews floating on top.
