Ingredients

3 servings
Radish (daikon radish, mooli)a piece, thick slices
Water1⅔ cups
Mackerel1 large, in chunks
Soy sauce2½ tbsp
Gochugaru2 tbsp
Gochujang1 tbsp
Garlic6 cloves, minced
Ginger1 tsp, minced
Sugar2 tsp
Onion1 small, sliced
Green chilli2, sliced
Spring onion (green onion, scallion)2 stalks, cut

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Line the pot with radish, add water and simmer 10 minutes.
  2. 2Mix soy, gochugaru, gochujang, garlic, ginger and sugar.
  3. 3Lay mackerel on the radish, top with onion and spoon over the sauce; simmer covered 15 minutes, basting.
  4. 4Add chillies and spring onion and simmer 3 minutes uncovered. Fish should flake easily.
Serve it like this

Serve in the braising pan with radish and fish together, sauce spooned over, rice and mild banchan alongside.
