Ingredients

4 servings
Minced beef (beef mince, beef or buff keema)250 g
Minced pork (pork mince, ground pork)150 g
Onion1, finely chopped
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)1 tbsp
Breadcrumbs½ cup panko
Milk3 tbsp
Egg1
Nutmega pinch
Salt¾ tsp
Black pepper¼ tsp
Tomato ketchup (ketchup)3 tbsp
Worcestershire sauce1½ tbsp
Butter2 tsp
Water¼ cup

Method

5 steps
  1. 1Fry the onion in half the oil until golden and cool. Soak the panko in milk.
  2. 2Knead the meats with salt until sticky, then mix in onion, crumbs, egg, nutmeg and pepper.
  3. 3Shape 4 oval patties, tossing each between your hands to push out air, and press a dent in the centre.
  4. 4Brown both sides in the remaining oil, add 2 tbsp water, cover and steam 8 minutes until cooked through with no pink.
  5. 5Add ketchup, Worcestershire, butter and water to the pan juices and bubble until glossy. Pour over.
Serve it like this

Serve on a warm plate with sauce poured over, buttered corn, carrots or a small salad beside, and rice.
