Ingredients

Minced beef (beef mince, beef or buff keema)beef mince
Breadcrumbs½ cup
Egg1
Onion2; 1 grated for patties, 1 sliced for gravy
Worcestershire sauce1 tbsp
Prepared mustard2 tsp
Tomato ketchup (ketchup)1 tbsp
Button mushroomsliced
Butter2 tbsp
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)2 tbsp
Beef stock (beef broth)2 cups
Saltto taste
Black pepper½ tsp
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)1 tbsp
Flat leaf parsleyto garnish

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Mix beef, breadcrumbs, egg, grated onion, half the Worcestershire, mustard, ketchup, salt and pepper. Shape into 4 oval patties.
  2. 2Brown the patties in oil 3 minutes a side and set aside.
  3. 3In the same pan melt butter, cook sliced onion and mushrooms until golden, then stir in flour.
  4. 4Whisk in stock and remaining Worcestershire, return patties and simmer covered 15 minutes, turning once.
Serve it like this

Set a patty on a mound of mashed potatoes and spoon over plenty of mushroom gravy. Peas or green beans alongside.
