Beef600 g, sliced paper thin
Soy sauce4 tbsp
Sugar2 tbsp
Apple½, grated (Asian pear is traditional)
Garlic6 cloves, grated
Ginger1 tsp, grated
Sesame oil1 tbsp
Black pepper¼ tsp
Onion1, thinly sliced
Carrot1 small, in matchsticks
Spring onion (green onion, scallion)3 stalks, in lengths
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)2 tsp
Sesame seeds2 tsp
Lettuce1 head, leaves separatedMethod
- 1Mix soy, sugar, grated apple, garlic, ginger, sesame oil and pepper.
- 2Toss the beef, onion and carrot in the marinade and rest at least 1 hour, ideally longer.
- 3Heat a pan or grill very hot with the oil. Cook the beef in batches, spreading it out.
- 4Add the spring onion at the end. Make sure no pink remains. Top with sesame seeds.
- 5Serve with rice and lettuce leaves for wrapping.
