Ingredients

4 servings
Horse gram¾ cup, soaked overnight
Water2½ cups
Onion1 small, chopped
Green chilli2, chopped
Fresh grated coconut⅓ cup
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)1 tbsp
Mustard seeds½ tsp
Urad dal (split black gram)1 tsp
Curry leavesa sprig
Lemon juice2 tsp
Saltto taste

Method

3 steps
  1. 1Pressure cook the soaked horse gram with water and salt for 4 to 5 whistles. Drain and save the water for saaru.
  2. 2Heat oil, splutter mustard and urad dal, add curry leaves, chillies and onion. Fry until soft.
  3. 3Add the horse gram and coconut, toss for a couple of minutes and finish with lemon juice.
Serve it like this

Serve in a small bowl on the plate beside ragi mudde or rice and huruli saaru.
