Chana dal (split chickpeas)1 cup yellow split peas or chana dal, soaked 2 hours
Onion1 large, finely chopped
Garlic4 cloves, minced
Ginger2.5 cm, minced
Turmeric (ground turmeric)1 tsp
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)3 tbsp
Green chilli2, slit
Water3½ cups

- 1Boil the split peas in water until soft enough to crush.
- 2Cook onions in the oil on low until soft and pale gold. Add garlic, ginger and turmeric.
- 3Add the cooked peas with some of their water and simmer, mashing a little.
- 4Add the green chillies and salt and simmer 2 minutes.
Serve it like thisSpoon a golden mound onto injera next to misir wat so the yellow and red sit side by side. Serve warm.
