Ingredients

6 servings
Rice1½ cups
Potato1, boiled and mashed
Turmeric (ground turmeric)½ tsp
Saltto taste
Minced beef (beef mince, beef or buff keema)300 g
Onion1 large, chopped
Flat leaf parsleyhandful, chopped
Raisins3 tbsp
Almonds3 tbsp, slivered
Baharat1½ tsp
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)for frying (amount absorbed)

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Cook the rice with turmeric and salt in extra water until very soft. Drain well, cool, then knead with the mashed potato into a smooth dough.
  2. 2Fry the onion and beef with baharat and salt until browned, then stir in raisins, almonds and parsley. Cool.
  3. 3With wet hands, flatten a ball of dough in your palm, add filling, and close into a flat disc, smoothing any cracks.
  4. 4Fry in hot oil until crisp and golden. Drain on paper.
Serve it like this

Pile on a platter with lemon wedges, pickles and a chopped salad. Amba makes a great dip.
