Ingredients

8 servings
Rice flour2 cups
Urad dal (split black gram)3 tbsp, roasted and powdered
Butter1½ tbsp, softened
Cumin seeds1 tsp
Sesame seeds1 tsp
Asafoetidaa pinch
Wateras needed
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)for frying
Saltto taste

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Mix rice flour, urad powder, butter, cumin, sesame, asafoetida and salt. Add water to make a soft, smooth dough.
  2. 2Fill a murukku press with the star plate and press spirals onto a greased plate or paper.
  3. 3Slide into medium hot oil and fry till the bubbling stops.
  4. 4Drain, cool completely and store in an airtight tin.
Serve it like this

Drain on paper for a minute, pile onto a plate and serve hot with chutney on the side.
