Beef700 g flank
Onion2, sliced
Capsicum (green capsicum, green bell pepper)1, sliced
Red bell pepper (red capsicum, red pepper)1, sliced
Tomato2, chopped
Garlic4 cloves
Cumin powder (ground cumin)½ tsp
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)3 tbsp, split
Black beans, dry1¼ cups dry, soaked
Jaggery2 tsp, or brown sugar for the beans
Cooked rice5 cups
Ripe plantain (ripe nendran banana)2 very ripe, sliced

- 1Pressure cook the beef in salted water for 6 whistles and let pressure release naturally. Shred finely.
- 2Fry onion, peppers and garlic, add tomato, cumin and the beef with some broth. Cook until saucy.
- 3Pressure cook black beans for 5 whistles, then simmer with a little jaggery and salt.
- 4Fry plantain slices in oil until caramelised.
- 5Serve rice, beans, beef and plantain side by side.
