Ingredients

6 servings
Red cabbage1 small head, finely shredded
Apple2 tart apples, grated
Onion1, sliced
Butter2 tbsp
Vinegar3 tbsp red wine or cider vinegar
Sugar2 tbsp
Whole spices3 cloves, 1 small cinnamon stick
Bay leaf (indian bay leaf)2 leaves
Water¾ cup
Fruit jam (jam or preserves)2 tbsp redcurrant jelly
Saltto taste

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Toss the cabbage with vinegar and sugar first.
  2. 2Soften onion in butter, add apple, cabbage, spices, bay and water.
  3. 3Cover and braise on low, stirring now and then, until very soft.
  4. 4Stir in the jelly, season and remove the whole spices.
Serve it like this
