Dried red chilli15, soaked
Shallots10
Garlic4 cloves
Shrimp paste1 tsp belacan
Tamarinda lime size piece, soaked
Jaggery1½ tbsp

Cooking oil (vegetable oil)3 tbsp

- 1Grind chillies, shallots, garlic and belacan into a paste.
- 2Fry the paste slowly in oil until dark red and the oil separates.
- 3Add tamarind water, jaggery and salt and simmer until thick.
- 4Add prawns and onion rings and toss until prawns are just pink and curled.
Serve it like thisServe in a small bowl with nasi lemak or plain rice, cucumber slices and a boiled egg on the side.
