Ingredients

4 servings
Whole green moong (mung beans)¾ cup, soaked
Water2½ cups
Turmeric (ground turmeric)¼ tsp
Fresh grated coconut½ cup
Cumin seeds½ tsp
Shallots8, sliced
Garlic3 cloves
Green chilli2
Red chilli powder (indian red chili powder)1 tsp
Coconut oil1½ tbsp
Mustard seeds½ tsp
Curry leaves2 sprigs
Saltto taste

Method

3 steps
  1. 1Pressure cook soaked moong with turmeric, salt and water for 3 whistles.
  2. 2Grind coconut, cumin, garlic and green chilli to a paste. Add to the moong and simmer 5 minutes.
  3. 3Heat coconut oil, splutter mustard, fry shallots and curry leaves golden, add chilli powder off the heat and pour over.
Serve it like this

Serve hot in a deep bowl with a swirl of ghee or a few coriander leaves on top, and rice or rotis on the side.
