Ingredients

Raw green tamarind250 g green tamarind, de-seeded
Green chilli15 to 20
Garlic10 cloves
Turmeric (ground turmeric)½ tsp
Salt1½ tbsp
Fenugreek seeds½ tsp
Mustard seeds½ tsp
Asafoetidaa pinch
Cooking oil (vegetable oil)3 tbsp

Method

4 steps
  1. 1Wash and dry the tamarind pods, remove seeds and strings.
  2. 2Pound or grind with chillies, garlic, turmeric and salt to a coarse paste.
  3. 3Roast fenugreek and mustard, powder and mix in.
  4. 4Temper the remaining mustard and asafoetida in oil and mix in. Store in a clean jar.
Serve it like this

Serve a teaspoon beside hot rice with ghee, or with dosa and jonna rotte.
