Ingredients

6 servings
Maida (all-purpose flour, plain flour)2 cups
Baking powder2 tsp
Beef suetshredded
Sugar30 g for pastry, 30 g for custard
Salta pinch
Milk150 ml for pastry, 500 ml for custard
Jam (jam or jelly)raspberry or strawberry
Custard powder3 tbsp

Method

5 steps
  1. 1Mix the flour, baking powder, suet, 30 g sugar and salt. Add 150 ml milk and bring together into a soft dough.
  2. 2Roll into a rectangle about 1 cm thick and spread with jam, leaving a 2 cm border.
  3. 3Roll up from the short side, pinch the seam and ends.
  4. 4Wrap loosely in pleated baking paper and bake at 180°C for 35 to 40 minutes.
  5. 5Make custard with the remaining milk, custard powder and sugar. Serve thick slices with hot custard.
